Preparing For Your Massage
Perhaps one of the best aspects of massage is that it doesn’t take much preparation at all — simply relax and enjoy the experience. Remember, this is your time for yourself!
That said, there are some things you can do to enhance the benefits and enjoyment of your massage:
- Try to schedule your massage for a time when you don’t have anything important planned before or after your appointment. This will allow you to remain in your relaxed state and enjoy the healing benefits of your massage.
- Avoid a heavy meal 2 hours before your massage.
- Avoid caffeine the day of your massage. Caffeine affects the nervous system, which is a primary focus of your massage.
- You may want to relax your muscles with a warm jacuzzi, bubble bath or shower.
- Minimize or eliminate your use of perfume, cologne or hairsprays the day of your massage.
- Have a space ready for a massage table to be set up.
- Minimize distractions from children, pets, phones and electrical devices.
During your Massage
- Wear a robe to disrobe to your comfort zone, as you will be draped on the massage table.
- Talking is welcome, but silence benefits you more.
- Feel comfortable to advise the massage therapist of any discomfort or pain.
After your Massage
- Drink plenty of water to help your body flush out the toxins which will have been released
- Allow the effects of the massage to linger. Relax and enjoy the release of stress, soreness and pressure from your body
- Always feel free to follow up if you have questions
